There are rubies that catch your eye—and then there are rubies that make you stop and look again.

This 0.72-carat oval ruby is one of those stones. Set in 14K white gold and accented by four natural mined round brilliant cut diamonds totaling .08 carats, this ring centers around a ruby with an exceptional depth and saturation of color.

The ruby measures approximately 6.0 x 4.2mm, presenting a rich, deeply saturated red that is difficult to capture in a photograph. In person, the stone reveals a presence and intensity that photographs simply cannot reproduce.

The Beauty of This Ruby

High-quality rubies with a beautiful, saturated red color and a clean, lively appearance are becoming increasingly difficult to find. Many rubies encountered in the marketplace can lean heavily toward pink, appear cloudy, or lack the depth of color that gives a fine ruby its unmistakable presence.

This ruby is different.

Its deep red color and exceptional saturation are what make it so compelling. The oval shape gives the gemstone an elegant outline while allowing its color to take center stage.

And while photographs are useful for showing the design, they simply don’t tell the whole story of this particular stone. The depth and richness of its color are best appreciated in person.

This ruby was sourced through one of my gem cutters in Asia, where I was able to select the stone based on the qualities that matter most to me: color, saturation, liveliness and overall beauty. For River’s Edge Gems, gemstone selection is personal. Rather than simply choosing a stone because it meets a particular size or weight, I look for gemstones that have that elusive quality that makes them memorable.
